Overview

The Shift Marketplace transforms how your team manages shift coverage by creating an internal marketplace where employees can list available shifts, claim open shifts, and trade shifts with colleagues. Features intelligent matching based on skills and availability, automated approval workflows, and comprehensive tracking to ensure proper coverage while giving employees flexibility in managing their schedules.

Employees post shifts for open pickup or trade and claim open shifts in one click, while managers use eligibility guardrails, approval workflows, and Coverage Autopilot to keep every slot covered.

Highlights

Post a shift for pickup or trade in seconds — the marketplace only surfaces it to eligible coworkers.
Claim an open shift with one click, or apply to a trade by offering one of your own shifts.
Send a direct shift offer to a specific coworker, with a built-in expiration.
Let smart approval auto-clear low-risk claims and route the rest to the right manager.
Give managers a Coverage Autopilot board that flags at-risk shifts and sends offers in one click.
Track every listing, claim, trade, and transfer in a full admin audit log.

Use cases

Pick up extra shifts
Browse open pickup listings and manager-posted open shifts you qualify for, then claim them — instantly or pending approval, depending on how your business configures approvals.
Drop a shift you can't work
List your assigned shift for pickup so an eligible coworker can take it, with automatic notifications and a clean assignment transfer.
Trade shifts with a coworker
Post a trade listing; when a coworker applies with one of their shifts and you accept, both assignments swap in a single bilateral transfer.
Offer a shift directly to a teammate
Send a direct, peer-to-peer offer to a specific coworker with an expiration date — no open posting required.
Close coverage gaps fast
Managers use Coverage Autopilot to see at-risk shifts for the next 7 days and one-click send coverage offers to every eligible employee — or escalate to the location manager.
Audit shift changes
Admins review the full audit trail of listings, claims, trades, and transfers for compliance and reporting.

FAQ

Shift Marketplace requires a license and is disabled by default. An admin enables it for your business from the Apps Marketplace; there is no automatic per-tenant rollout.

Shifts & Scheduling owns the schedule itself — it creates shifts, publishes schedules, and posts open shifts. Shift Marketplace is the employee-driven layer on top: it lets workers list their own shifts, claim open shifts, apply for trades, send direct offers, and run those requests through your approval rules. The open shifts you see in the marketplace come from the published schedule; the pickup, trade, offer, approval, and Coverage Autopilot workflows are the marketplace's.

Listings are filtered by eligibility. Employees only see shifts they qualify for based on scheduling-group or location membership, role/skill requirements, and scheduling conflicts. Managers and admins see all listings for oversight.

Open pickup listings and manager-posted open shifts have a one-click claim. Whether it lands immediately or waits on a manager depends on your business's approval mode — the button tells you 'Claim' or 'Request' up front so there are no surprises.

List a shift as trade-only (or both). An eligible coworker applies by offering one of their own future shifts. When you accept, the app runs conflict checks for both people and swaps both assignments in one bilateral transfer, rejecting any other pending applicants.

Smart approval auto-approves low-risk claims and routes the rest to a manager. A claim is auto-approved if it's made 48+ hours ahead, comes from a trusted employee (tenure plus a strong MangoScore), is a same-day shift at the same location or scheduling group, or covers an urgent critical role. You can also choose auto-approve-everything or manager-approve-everything instead.

Coverage Autopilot is a manager control tower that surfaces shifts at risk of going uncovered in the next 7 days. Managers can one-click send coverage offers to every eligible employee or escalate to the location manager; admins can trigger a detection cycle on demand. It offers and escalates — it never force-assigns a shift, so a person always has to accept.

Yes. You can close or cancel your listing at any time before it's claimed. Once a shift is claimed or filled, it's locked in as a completed transfer.
