Standard operating procedure for maintaining cosmetic tester hygiene, enforcing single-use applicators by product class, prohibiting double-dipping, specifying sanitiser use, and completing shift-end deep cleaning.

Steps

• Verify the approved tester setup
  The beauty advisor verifies that the tester station contains only approved product classes, approved disposable applicators, and the approved sanitiser for the store. The beauty advisor removes any unapproved, damaged, or expired items from the station and escalates missing supplies to the shift lead.
• Assign a single-use applicator to each tester interaction
  The beauty advisor selects a new disposable applicator for each customer and each product class. The beauty advisor discards the applicator immediately after the interaction and never places a used applicator back into the clean supply.
• Prohibit double-dipping during tester use
  The shift lead confirms that staff do not double-dip applicators, fingers, or tools into any tester product. If double-dipping occurs, the beauty advisor stops use of the affected tester, isolates the product, and reports the non-conformance to the shift lead.
• Apply the approved sanitiser to tester surfaces
  The beauty advisor applies the approved sanitiser to the tester surface according to the product label and store procedure. The beauty advisor uses lint-free wipes to remove visible residue and avoids saturating the product, packaging, or display fixtures.
• Inspect the tester station during the shift
  The shift lead inspects the tester station at regular intervals for cleanliness, correct applicator use, and visible contamination. The shift lead records any deviation, including missing supplies, reused applicators, or contaminated testers, and escalates repeated issues to the store manager.
• Complete the shift-end deep clean
  The beauty advisor removes and discards all used applicators and waste, then cleans and sanitises tester surfaces, display edges, and nearby contact points. The beauty advisor checks for residue, spills, damaged packaging, and product contamination, then replaces only approved supplies.
• Record completion and escalate non-conformance
  The beauty advisor or shift lead records completion of the SOP in the log sheet or digital checklist. The role documents any non-conformance, such as double-dipping, contaminated testers, or missing approved supplies, and escalates unresolved issues to the store manager for corrective action.
