Solar PV Module Thermography Survey
Solar PV Module Thermography Survey
Infrared inspection template for photovoltaic arrays, modules, combiner boxes, and terminations to identify hot spots, cracked cells, failed strings, and connection defects before they reduce production or create a fire/electrical hazard.
Survey Scope and Site Conditions
- Inspection scope documented for array, strings, and equipment included in survey
- Inspector is qualified to perform infrared thermography and understands PV electrical hazards
-
Ambient conditions suitable for thermography
Record irradiance, wind, cloud cover, and ambient temperature. Conditions should support meaningful thermal contrast.
- Array operating under normal load during inspection
Module Surface and Cell Condition
- No module hot spots observed above surrounding cell temperature
- No cracked cells, delamination, or discoloration visible in thermal or visual review
- Thermal pattern across module is uniform with no localized heating at cell edges or corners
- Evidence of bypass diode activation or cell-string mismatch documented if present
String, Combiner, and Connection Thermography
- No failed or underperforming strings identified by thermal comparison
- Combiner box, fuse holders, and terminals show no abnormal heating
- DC disconnects and exposed terminations show no elevated temperature at lugs, splices, or connectors
- Temperature differential at suspect connection recorded
Electrical Safety and Access Control
- Appropriate PPE used for energized electrical inspection tasks
- Access to energized equipment controlled and restricted to authorized personnel
- Lockout-tagout status verified for any de-energized equipment inspected
Findings, Corrective Actions, and Sign-Off
- All thermal anomalies documented with module/string identifier, location, and image reference
- Corrective actions assigned for defects requiring repair or retest
- Inspector signature
