Mono-Material Recyclability Design Review

Inspection template for reviewing packaging film structure, inks, adhesives, labels, and closures to determine whether a design meets mono-material recyclability and store drop-off criteria, and to document required design changes and non-conformances.

Review Scope and Design Identification

• Design revision, SKU, and artwork version match the approved review package
• Intended recycling pathway is documented as store drop-off or equivalent accepted stream
• Package format and component list are complete and current
• Reference documents available for review

Film Structure and Polymer Compatibility

• Primary film structure uses a single polymer family throughout the package
• Non-compatible layers, laminations, or metallized structures are absent or justified by accepted store drop-off criteria
• Barrier coatings, tie layers, and sealants are compatible with the target recycling stream
• Package thickness and gauge are documented for the reviewed structure
• Any additives, fillers, or pigments that may affect recyclability are identified

Inks, Adhesives, and Labels

• Ink system is compatible with the target recycling process and does not create contamination concerns
• Adhesives are minimal, removable, or compatible with the target recycling stream
• Labels are made from the same polymer family or are otherwise accepted by store drop-off criteria
• Label coverage, size, and placement do not materially reduce recyclability

Closures, Seals, and Ancillary Components

• Closures and ancillary components are compatible with the target recycling stream
• If dissimilar components are present, they are removable or separable as required by store drop-off criteria
• Seal design supports package functionality without requiring incompatible materials

Store Drop-Off Criteria and Design Changes

• Package meets store drop-off acceptance criteria with no unresolved non-conformances
• Required design changes are identified for each deficiency
• Corrective action owner and target completion date are recorded
