Insulating Glass Unit (IGU) Fabrication Quality Inspection

Quality inspection for insulating glass unit fabrication before release from the IG line. Verifies sealant continuity, corner sealing, desiccant fill, glass cleanliness, and related non-conformances that can lead to fogging, gas loss, or premature seal failure.

Inspection Setup and Lot Identification

• IGU unit ID, lot number, and date code are legible and match the work order
• Inspection area is clean, dry, and adequately lit for visual defect detection
• Glass size, spacer type, and unit configuration match the specified product build

Glass Surface Cleanliness and Contamination

• Interior and exterior glass surfaces are free of fingerprints, smears, dust, and visible debris
• No visible sealant smears, silicone residue, or adhesive transfer on exposed glass
• No chips, scratches, edge damage, or surface defects that exceed internal acceptance criteria
• Glass surfaces are dry and free of condensation at time of inspection
• Spacer edge and sightline are free of contamination, voids, and foreign material

Sealant Continuity and Corner Sealing

• Primary seal is continuous around the full perimeter with no visible gaps or skips
• Secondary seal is continuous around the full perimeter with no voids, breaks, or missed sections
• Corner seals are fully filled, well tooled, and free of pinholes or corner pull-back
• Sealant bead profile is uniform and properly bonded to glass and spacer surfaces
• No visible bubbles, voids, delamination, or extrusion defects are present in the seal area

Spacer, Desiccant, and Edge Components

• Spacer is properly aligned, seated, and free of deformation or separation
• Desiccant fill is present and appears complete with no visible underfill or leakage
• No visible spacer punctures, open ends, or unsealed joints are present
• Muntin, grid, or internal component alignment matches the product specification
• Edge components are free of corrosion, damage, or contamination

Final Release and Documentation

• Unit meets internal acceptance criteria for release from the IG line
• Any non-conformances are recorded with defect type, location, and disposition
• Inspector name and signature are completed
