- Spoil piles and materials positioned at safe distance from edge

Protective Systems
- Protective system installed and appropriate for excavation conditions
- Shoring, shielding, or sloping remains intact and properly positioned
- Protective system free of damage, displacement, or undercutting
- Excavation edge protection and barricades in place where required
- No person entered unprotected excavation areas beyond approved limits
Access, Egress, and Work Area Controls
- Safe means of access and egress provided within required travel distance
- Ladders, ramps, or stairs are secured and extend above landing as needed
- Access routes are clear of mud, debris, and trip hazards
- Equipment, traffic, and pedestrian controls maintained around excavation
Atmospheric and Water Hazards
- Atmospheric testing completed where required before entry
