Mango IQ FAQ
Answers to common setup and operating questions about Mango IQ.
For what the app is and how to set it up from scratch, see the
Mango IQ Overview.
Setup
Do I need to do anything besides enabling the app?
Yes. Enabling Mango IQ from the Apps Marketplace makes the app visible, but it has no data until you add at least one competitor. Go to Competitors, add a name, website URL, and domain, and assign a stance. The system then discovers pages from the competitor’s sitemap and begins crawling automatically. If the competitor’s site has no sitemap, add pages manually by pasting URLs or uploading documents.
What stance should I assign to a new competitor?
The four stances are Direct Rival, Indirect, Monitor, and Ignore. New competitors default to Monitor. Direct Rivals are crawled most frequently and weighted highest in threat scoring. Indirect competitors are tracked but weighted lower. Monitor watches for changes without planning a response. Ignore keeps the entry for reference but excludes it from most rollups. You can change the stance at any time from the competitor’s detail page.
Permissions and access
Who can access Mango IQ, and how do I change it?
By default, Manager, Admin, and Super Admin roles can access the app. Members are excluded. You can widen or narrow this in Settings → Who Can Access Mango IQ. If you clear all selections, it falls back to Admin and Super Admin only — the app never becomes completely inaccessible.
What are the four granular permissions, and who gets them?
Mango IQ defines four permissions: View Mango IQ, Manage competitors, Manage pages, and Manage intel notes. Super Admin and Admin receive all four by default. Manager receives View, Manage competitors, and Manage intel notes. Member receives View only. These are assigned through the platform’s role permissions system, independent of the access-role setting above.
Who can change Mango IQ settings?
Only app admins. Every action in the Admin section — Our Profile, Admin Panel, and Settings — requires the app-admin role.
Day-to-day
How do I add competitors in bulk?
Go to Competitors and choose the import option. You can paste URLs one per line, or upload a CSV file with columns for name, domain, URL, category, stance, segment, is_own, and active. If a domain already exists, the import updates the existing competitor instead of creating a duplicate. Competitors added beyond the maximum limit are imported with monitoring turned off.
How does draft generation and publishing work?
When the system identifies a gap or change worth responding to, it creates an action item. From any action item you can generate an AI draft. The draft is auto-graded; if it scores below 70 it is automatically rewritten once and re-graded. When you are satisfied, mark the draft as ready and publish it. Publishing always creates an unpublished blog post — a human reviews and publishes the post to make it live. Drafts are matched to your detected brand voice from Our Profile → Brand Voice.
What is the action item lifecycle?
Action items move through Suggested → Accepted → In Progress → Completed, or they can be Dismissed at any point. When a draft finishes generating, the action item automatically moves from Accepted to In Progress. Draft statuses are separate: Generating → Generated → Edited → Ready → Published.
Can I pause monitoring for all competitors at once?
Yes. Use Pause All Active on the Competitors page. The paused set is remembered for 24 hours, during which you can reactivate them all at once from the Paused tab. After 24 hours the batch undo expires and you would need to reactivate each competitor individually.
How does Mango IQ connect to Mango GTM?
Two automatic links. First, when you add a competitor its domain is synced to Mango GTM’s exclusion list so your outbound prospecting skips that company. Second, references the system discovers in competitor content — companies competitors cite as customers or partners — can be promoted to the Mango GTM outbound prospect queue. Promotion is a manual action by an admin; it is not automatic.
When something looks wrong
I added a competitor but no pages appeared
The crawler discovers pages from the competitor’s sitemap. If the site has no sitemap, or the URL you entered does not resolve to one, the competitor entry is created with zero pages. Add pages manually by pasting URLs, uploading documents (up to 50 MB each), or uploading videos (up to 25 MB each).
Why can’t some of my team see Mango IQ?
The most common cause is the access-role setting. By default only Manager, Admin, and Super Admin can open the app — Members are excluded. Check Settings → Who Can Access Mango IQ and widen the role list if needed. Also confirm the app itself is enabled for your business in the Apps Marketplace.
The pipeline seems to have stopped analyzing pages — what happened?
Mango IQ enforces a monthly LLM spending cap. The default is $50.00 USD per month, configurable in Settings → Monthly LLM Budget. When spending reaches the cap, analysis pauses for the rest of the month. Check Admin Panel for the current month’s spend. The budget resets on the first of each month.
I see a change event but nobody got an email about it
Two conditions must be met. First, Significant Change Alerts must be turned on in Settings (it is on by default). Second, the change event must be classified as high significance — medium and low events do not trigger email alerts. Alerts are batched into a weekly email sent to the roles listed in the Change Alert Roles setting (default: Manager, Admin, and Super Admin).
A crawled page keeps failing — is there a retry limit?
Failed pages are retried with exponential backoff. The wait between retries grows as 4^(n − 1) hours, where n is the number of consecutive failures, capped at 72 hours. There is no hard retry limit — the system continues retrying on each crawl cycle. If a page consistently fails (for example, the server returns 403), check whether the site blocks automated access. You can also remove the page and re-add it manually.
Why are some competitor pages being skipped?
The crawler filters out several categories of pages automatically: non-English pages (detected from the page’s language attribute), duplicate pages (same content hash as an existing page), and low-value URL patterns such as login, careers, legal, and tag pages. Pages can also be skipped if the competitor’s page count has reached the Max Pages Per Competitor limit (default 100).
Licensing and limits
Does Mango IQ require a licence?
Yes. Mango IQ requires a licence and is opt-in per tenant. An administrator enables it from the Apps Marketplace after the licence is provisioned.
