Released change notice
Effective point: production lots started on 14 October 2026, second shift. Applies only to the listed bracket family and lines in the released change record. This example illustrates how to read a notice; it is not a live release or an instruction to change production.
What changed and what is in scope
Example setting: Northstar Components is fictional.
In this example, Engineering Change Notice ECN-2481 updates the finish specification and package label for bracket family NB-42. The released record identifies lines 2 and 4 at the fictional Cedar Plant and sets the effective point at production lots started on 14 October 2026, second shift.
Included: NB-42 brackets produced on lines 2 and 4 at Cedar Plant from that effective point, as listed in the example release.
Not included: NB-42A, a similar-looking bracket family, is not listed in this example change. Do not infer scope from appearance or product-name similarity; use the released affected-item list for the actual change.
The change record is the source for its scope and effective point. Approved local work references govern how affected work is performed. If either is unavailable or appears inconsistent, pause the change-related handoff and ask the responsible supervisor or change owner to resolve the reference; do not treat this example as production authorization.
What this means by role

Coordinate the change at the effective point
This is a communication and reference-check sequence, not a production procedure.
-
1
Identify the released change
Read the change identifier and release record. For the fictional example, that is ECN-2481. -
2
Match the affected item and location
Compare the item or family, plant, line, and any stated exclusions with the released affected-item list. Similar names or appearance alone do not establish inclusion. -
3
Check the applicable local reference
Use the approved local work reference identified for the change. If it is missing, unclear, or inconsistent with the release, ask the supervisor to involve the responsible change owner and Quality role. -
4
Make the handoff explicit
At the stated effective point, communicate the change identifier, in-scope item and location, applicable reference, and any unresolved question to the next responsible role.
When the answer is not clear
Route the question to the role that can resolve the source or local-work issue.
