Emergency guidance

In an emergency, follow the instructions posted at your location and the direction of the people responsible for your site. Posted notices, site briefings and your supervisor are the first source for what to do and who to contact.

This page does not list emergency numbers or give medical advice. Those come from your organization's approved emergency guidance, which is kept separately for each site.

A general order of actions

  1. 1

Follow the posted instructions for your location

Notices and briefings for your site take priority over anything on this page.

  2. 2

    Alert the designated response role

Use the route your site has approved. If you are not sure who that is, ask your supervisor before you need it.

  3. 3

Stay with the guidance you were given

Do not rely on messages or advice that are not from your approved source.

  4. 4

    Report it afterwards

When it is safe and you have been told you can, use the reporting route so the right people can follow up.

Common questions

Where is the approved emergency guidance for my site?

Look at the notices posted at your location and ask your supervisor to show you where the full guidance is kept. If your site has not told you, raise it so the site maintainer can add a clear pointer here.

What if I cannot find the guidance?

Ask the nearest supervisor or the designated response role at your site. Report the missing guidance afterwards so it can be fixed.

Does this page replace my site briefing?

No. It is a starting point for finding the right source. Your site briefing and posted instructions come first.

Where do I go after the situation is over?

Use the reporting route to describe what happened. The Reporting and Follow-up page explains what is helpful to include.
