Check the job pack before you travel
This page uses a fictional Northbank Utilities work order to show how a job-pack companion is organized. It helps you confirm that the scope, references, access arrangements and support routes for a job are available and agree with each other. The approved work order, documents and procedures remain the authority for what to do and how to do it.
Worked example: Cedar Ridge relay-room inspection
Fictional sample. A job-pack summary tells you what to look for; only the approved source can tell you the limits and the method. Reading across each row gives the same information as the columns.
| Details | What the pack summary shows | Where the authority sits |
|---|---|---|
| Job scope | Routine inspection of the relay room, asset CR-12, work order NU-2291 | The approved work order itself |
| Asset identifier | CR-12 appears in the pack, the work order and the asset record | Asset register entry for CR-12 |
| Planned access window | Wednesday 14 October 2026, 08:00 to 12:00, entry via the site gatehouse | Access booking made by the access coordinator |
| Required references | Lists the two reference documents by title and revision | The current approved revision of each document |
| Technical limits and settings | Not stated in the pack | Applicable approved technical documents only |
| Execution steps | Not stated in the pack | Approved procedure, used by trained roles |
| Support route | Names the roles to contact, not individuals | Responsible work-order coordinator or domain owner |
Four checks before you attend
Work through them in order. Each one is something you can verify against the pack.
Job scope
Confirm the pack describes the same job as the work order.
- Work order number matches in the pack and the work order
- Asset identifier matches the asset record
- Scope wording is the same, with no extra or missing tasks
Required references
Confirm each reference the pack lists is available to you.
- Every listed document opens from its approved source
- The revision you hold matches the revision the pack names
- No reference is marked superseded or draft
Access coordination
Confirm someone has arranged your entry to the site.
- Access window and entry point are written in the pack
- The access coordinator has recorded your name for that window
- Any site contact on arrival is named by role
Support contacts
Know who to ask before you travel, not after you arrive.
- Work-order coordinator is named for this job
- A domain owner is named for each technical reference
- You know where a correction to the pack is reported
When something is missing or does not agree
Complete pack: the work order, the pack and the asset record all show CR-12 and work order NU-2291. Both references are listed with the revision you hold, and the access window has your name against it. The reference checks agree; complete any remaining preparation and authorization required by the approved work process.
Pack to pause on: the pack names asset CR-12, but the work order refers to CR-21. Nothing here says which is right, and this page cannot decide. Hold the job and contact the work-order coordinator before you travel.
Who to contact
- Work-order coordinator: scope, asset or reference mismatches, and any change to the job.
- Access coordinator: missing or changed access windows, entry points and site arrival arrangements.
- Domain owner for the reference: questions about what a technical document means or whether a revision is current.
- Field and Asset Operations: errors in this companion itself.
This companion does not replace an approved procedure and does not authorize any work. Technical limits, safety requirements and execution steps come only from the approved documents and trained roles.
Company policies
The list below shows published company policies you can read. It is not filtered to a particular job, site or jurisdiction, so use the work order and your coordinator to confirm which ones apply.
