Banners present important information to your entire MangoApps domain at once. Banners can include text and links. In this article we’ll present use cases for banners that can be dismissed by the user, banners that cannot be dismissed, and banners that contain links. How do I create a banner for domain-wide announcement in MangoApps?

To create a simple MangoApps banner, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Admin Portal
  2. Click on the “Branding” from the left navigation bar  and scroll down to check the box “Enable Banner” next to “Banner Configuration”

  3. Type your banner message into the “Banner Message” box.
  4. Optionally, customize your banner using the WYSIWYG composition controls and “Banner Configuration” options.
  5. Click the “Save Settings” button to register your banner changes and propagate your banner to the User Portal.
  6. Click on the “User Portal” to return to the User Portal and view your banner.

How can users dismiss a banner after it’s been read?

You may want your users to see an important message but still have the opportunity to dismiss the message after it has been read. To set up this scenario, refer to the How do I create a banner for domain-wide announcement in MangoApps? above and verify a checkmark appears in the “Users can hide banner message” checkbox prior to clicking on the “Save Settings” button.

Can I show users a banner which cannot be dismissed?

Users can be shown the banner persistently until an administrator chooses to remove the banner or change the banner message. Banner persistence is introduced by clearing the checkmark from the “Users can hide banner message” checkbox prior to clicking the “Save” button in the How can users dismiss a banner after it’s been read? steps above.

Can banners have links, pictures and other HTML and CSS elements?

Any text in a banner can be a hyperlink. To create a hyperlink in your banner, follow the steps from How do I create a banner for domain-wide announcement in MangoApps? with the following additional steps:

  1. Highlight the text the “Banner Message” box that you want to be a hyperlink.
  2. Click the “Link” action from the WYSIWYG controls.1
  3. On the “Link Info” tab, choose the “Link Type” from the dropdown menu.
  4. Specify the “Protocol” from the dropdown menu.
  5. Type in the URL (without the protocol) into the URL box and your simple link will be created when you click the “OK” button.
  6. (Optional) Control the target location where the linked page will appear. By default the target page is the same window where the link appears (parent window). To override the default:
    • Click the “Target” tab and make a choice from the “Target” drop-down menu. Choose either: “frame”, “popup window”, “blank browser page”, “top window”, or “parent window”.
  7. (Optional) On the “Advanced” tab, set CSS parameters and other advanced features as provided.
  8. Click the “OK” button to register your changes to the hyperlink and return to the Banner Configuration window.
  9. Click “Save” in the Banner Configuration window to register your changes to the banner and propagate your banner to the User Portal.

How can I create a banner for MangoApps navigation?

Most content in MangoApps has a unique link that takes users directly to that content. Documents, Tasks, Projects, Groups, Wall Posts, Team Posts, Events, Feeds, and Ideas are all examples of MangoApps content with unique links. To include their unique links in MangoApps banners:

  1. Find and copy the link to MangoApps contentIn this example, we’ll find the unique link to MangoApps Group Post content. For other types of content, in general there is a “Copy Link to this…” action link in the details section for that content.
    • Click on the “Groups” in the left navigation bar.
    • Find your Group from the list of groups.
    • Click on the “Posts” in the secondary navigation.
    • Click on the name of the post (link) to view the post details.
    • Click on the “Post Tools” -> “Copy link to post” action link to copy the link to the clipboard.

  2. Return to the “Domain” in “Admin Portal”  > Click on the “Branding” from the left navigation bar  and scroll down to check the box “Enable Banner” next to “Banner Configuration”
  3. While composing your banner as in How do I create a banner for domain-wide announcement in MangoApps? select the Banner Text that will become a link
  4. Associate the Content Link with the selected link text by clicking the “Link” action.
  5. Paste the URL from the clipboard into the “URL” textbox
  6. Click “Save” to create your banner and propagate your banner to the User Portal.
  7. Return to the user portal by choosing “User Portal” to view your banner.

How do I remove a banner that’s been created?

If you’d like to remove or change a banner that you’ve created:

  1. Return to the Admin Portal -> “Branding” -> “Banner Configuration” section.
  2. Remove Banner:  Remove the checkmark from the “Enable Banner” box to completely remove (disable) banners from your MangoApps domain.
  3. Change Banner:  Change the banner message shown to users in the “Banner Message” box.
  4. Click the “Save Settings” button to register your changes.
