APNS for iOS mobile devices
MangoApps uses Apple Push Notification service (APNs for Short) as a fast, reliable way to keep you in the loop. It is a robust and highly efficient service for sending information to devices such as iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. Each device establishes an accredited and encrypted IP connection with the service and receives notifications over this persistent connection. If a notification for MangoApps arrives when it is not running, the device alerts the user that MangoApps has data waiting for it.
GCM/C2DM for Android mobile devices
On Android mobile devices MangoApps uses Google Cloud Messaging (GCM for short) to send data from your MangoApps domain servers to your users' Android-powered device. This is a small message telling MangoApps on the Android device there is new data to be fetched from the server, or it could be a message containing up to 4kb of data (a quick update may be the complete message in the notification panel itself).
The GCM service handles all aspects of queueing the messages and delivery to the MangoApps app running on the device. GCM is completely free no matter how big your messaging needs are, and there are no quotas.
